The European Union plans to ban the supply of Xbox and PlayStation to Russia

Financial Times reports on the European Union’s plans to ban the supply of PlayStation and Xbox consoles to Russia. According to EU Supreme Chairman Kaja Kallas, the consoles can be used by Russians for military purposes.

It is worth noting that officially, consoles from Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo have not been supplied to the Russian Federation for three years. Apparently, officials’ plans may include not only a ban on the import of consoles from EU countries, but also a ban on devices imported into the country illegally. The initiative is going to be included in the 16th package of sanctions, which is planned to be adopted on February 22, 2025.

Russian experts assume that such measures will have no effect: currently, consoles are not imported into the territory of the Russian Federation from the European Union, just as no company produces consoles in the countries of the alliance.
