Sony rejected The Order: 1886 sequel due to bad reviews

The founder of the now-closed studio Ready at Dawn spoke about the reasons for the problems with The Order: 1886 and why the project never received a sequel.

Andrea Pessino spoke about the difficulties during the development of The Order: 1886 in an interview with the MinnMax channel. According to him, despite the general satisfaction with the project, Sony set strict deadlines for the team, threatening to withhold payments in case of milestones failures.

After receiving the results of internal reviews, the owner of PlayStation chose the release date, stating that it was not negotiable. For this reason, the studio had to cut out all unfinished content, turning significant sections of gameplay into non-interactive cutscenes.

Despite all this, Ready at Dawn was ready to take on the sequel to the action: the studio had the next version of the engine and several ambitious ideas on hand. However, Sony was saddened with the low ratings for The Order: 1886 and senior management flatly refused to develop a sequel.

Ready at Dawn was closed in 2024.
