Sony announced layoffs at PlayStation – 8% of employees will be fired
Sony announced a major “restructuring” within PlayStation: layoffs will take place in studios around the world, and in total it is planned to cut about 900 employees (8% of the division’s staff).
The exact list of studios where layoffs are planned has not yet been disclosed. At the moment, it is known that the cuts will affect Naughty Dog, Insomniac Games, Guerrilla Games and Firesprite studio. PlayStation London Studio, responsible for several VR projects, will be closed completely.
In addition, the head of PlayStation Studios, Herman Hulst, announced that the company had canceled several projects that were at different stages of development. Its list is also not disclosed, but Bloomberg journalist Jason Schreier said that among the canceled titles was a new part of Twisted Metal, for which Firesprite was responsible.
