Rumor: Atomic Heart 2 will be much darker, with Unreal Engine 5 as the engine

Former Igromania editor Alexey Makarenkov shared insider information about the Atomic Heart sequel on his YouTube channel — according to the blogger, the source of information can be considered reliable.
Makarenkov noted that in addition to Atomic Heart 2, Mundfish is also working on other projects in the universe. A vertical slice is now ready for the sequel — that is, the main gameplay elements have been created. In the second part, some heroes from the original will return, and a new way to move around the open world will appear.
The style of the game will undergo changes: the general philosophy will remain the same, but the tone of the project will become much darker. The studio is putting a lot of effort into the graphics component — Atomic Heart 2 will have detailed models and environments. Development is being carried out on Unreal Engine 5, which has recently earned an ambiguous reputation.
The official announcement of Atomic Heart 2 is planned for 2026 (Makarenkov suggests that it could happen at the end of 2025). The shooter will likely be available in versions for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series.
