Bloomberg: part of Ubisoft may be spun off into a separate company
Bloomberg reported on one of the options for restructuring Ubisoft, which the company’s management is currently considering. Thus, the Guillemot family and Tencent may create a company separate from Ubisoft, which may receive some franchises of the French publisher — it is not yet known which ones.
Thus, Tencent will be able to gain greater control over Ubisoft projects (the Chinese holding is already a shareholder in the company), and the publisher will potentially be able to get rid of problematic products that it cannot effectively develop on its own. The discussion of which franchises the new entity will receive has not yet been completed, but the parties may ultimately choose a different restructuring method.
Ubisoft and Tencent will make a final decision after the release of Assassin’s Creed Shadows — the project is scheduled for March 20.
